Australian's have a huge appetite for shopping. Our consumption, per person, out-strips that of people in most other countries. We're an ecological Big Foot, and that's nothing to be proud of.

The good news is that as consumers we hold considerable power. We can change the way we live and influence others, even inspire fundamental shifts in manufacturing. The choices we make at the checkout can have a significant impact on future sustainability.

When shopping for food and groceries, electrical appliances or household furniture, we can make environmentally friendly choices. Demonstrating to retailers and manufacturers that we want sustainable options creates a demand for them.

So how do we make informed choices?
